ObituaryMarjorie Howe Stanfield - Age 76 - Local ArtistLifetime resident of Kenmore and Tonawanda, NY, Marjorie Howe Stanfield enjoyed spending her childhood years riding horses at her family's place in Gasport, NY. This property is now part of Niagara County Royalton Ravine Park. Upon graduation from Kenmore West Sr. High School, she entered the nursing program at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle. She married David R. Stanfield in 1950 and dedicated much of her time to her family and her art. Marjorie was an accomplished artist in many mediums, including china painting, etched printing, sculpture, oils, acrylics, pen and ink drawings, and photography. She is most noted for her oil painting and her etched prints or pen and ink Christmas cards, many of which have been framed and hang in the homes of family and friends.. Each year, at Christmas time, her front lawn is decorated with an illuminated 4 ft. by 5 ft. original art work. For many years Marjorie taught art students in her art studio in her home. In the 1970's she organized a local group of artists known as "Artists Twenty" and arranged shows at local malls and banks. In the 1970's she entered the University of Buffalo and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1979. Aside from her art, Marjorie communicated her joy and passion for life through many other interests. She was committed to a healthy lifestyle and practiced yoga for much of her adult life. For several years, she and her husband raised bees, not only for the honey but to provide bee sting therapy for her rheumatoid arthritis. She was a very giving person and loved to share her summer island retreat with family and friends. In recent years she was a member of the Science Museum Camera Club where she won numerous awards for her slides and prints. Since the onset of ALS in 2000, Marjorie has shown tremendous courage and determination in her approach to the disease. Her devoted husband has been by her side during every phase of the disease. Since December 2006, both Marjorie and David have benefited from the comprehensive care received from Hospice Buffalo. Each week her life was brightened by visits from a therapy dog arranged by Hospice. Her family and friends greatly appreciate this amazing care. Survivors include her husband David, sister Joy Elliott, son Mark, daughter-in-law Judy and two grandchildren, Whitney and David James Stanfield. |
